    Notes

John Fraser was one of the members of the 78th Fraser Highlanders who took his discharge in Quebec in 1763. In 1768 his neighbours were William Fraser and Edward Davidson. On 10 Feb 1777 in St-Louis-de-Kamouraska, John Fraser (c1730-1780) married Josette Dumont (1753-1848), with issue, three children. [Partial translation of entry by J.A. Trutault, Ptre: "Year one thousand seven hundred seventy seven the tenth of February... Jean Phraser inhabitant of this parish, son of deceased Guillaume Phreser and Jeanne Saphran his father and mother... and Marie-Josette Dumon, daughter of Pierre Guéret dit: Dumon and deceased Marie-Josette Obé her father and mother..."]

At her marriage in February 1783 to Barthélémis Charest, Marie Josette Dumont was the widow of Jean-Bapt. Gros Jean. Thus, John Fraser had become Jean Le Gros and Jean-Bapt. Gros Jean. Phonetic spelling was haphazard at best. On 10 March 1783, Barthélémis Charest, current spouse of Marie Josephte Dumont, widow of Jean Fraiser, requests that tutors be appointed for three minor children.
